Settling in London

Everyday, London - September 16, 2014

So settling down in London was kinda tough. It was different. It wasn’t like preparing to go on a holiday and all i would do was strut down the streets of London and take in the breath of fresh air and be excited. This was the real deal. I took a step into the apartment and stood there for a bit, absorbing in the atmosphere as a took off my backpack and wheeled my luggage into my room. In that moment, i wouldn’t say i was scared, but it was quiet, silent.
The evening i arrived in London, i curled up on the sofa with my laptop and watched a movie because i wanted to feel cosy. I didn’t want to stress myself out with the unpacking, so keeping myself occupied was the only thing i could do.
When will i start to get used to this, i wonder.
Have i mentioned? My mum’s here with me to help me with the settling in. She joined me from her Istanbul / Athens trip and we reunited in the apartment! So glad she’s here with me. wouldn’t know what to do without her around to help me with decisions.
The third day was great because i met up with Jeremy who happened to be in the area with his aunt. I was really happy because he was a familiar face. We settled for a nice brunch at a cafe over at Westfield and had a quick catch up. Really glad to have a friend right now.

Headed off from Westfield to shop at John Lewis for appliances and household stuff. It was super tiring because we had to decide with measurements and what not, and the process over at the cashier was really slow.  After about 3 hours or so, we decided to go for afternoon tea. Headed to their top floor food hall and got ourselves some bites. It was super yummy. The crepes were moist with fresh mushrooms and onions, while the scone was toasty and buttery. It was a great afternoon boost.

Because we gotten ourselves some cutlery, I woke up the next day bright and early and made breakfast for me and my mum! Fried up eggs and seasoned up some avocados to go along with toasty crossaints. I love breakfasts like that, they make a good start to a full day ahead!

Met Jeremy again with my mum the next day because WE WERE HEADING TO IKEA. I was excited because IKEA had loads of knick knacks. But first and foremost, FOOD. & oh wow. I LOVE THE MEATBALLS. So different from Singapore’s. The meatballs here had a great taste to it, and it was firm and tender all at the same time. I have no idea how to describe it, but yeah, YUMMY. The food were all accompanied with peas and mashed potatoes. Before you go all “eww peas”, the peas were fresh and sweet. not mushy and weird at all. Seriously.
Bought so many things from Ikea and am extremely thankful for Jermz for staying around to help me and my mum with carry and pushing the trolley. Thank you thank you :’)

And today, made breakfast again because i love cooking. Hahahaha. Scrambled up some eggs and onions and tossed an avocado salad with Honey Mustard Dressing from M&S.

Stuck around the area of where we live because the IKEA delivery was supposed to come between 7am-7pm. So headed to Westfield to really try and explore the mall because even though we stay really near, we haven’t really shopped in it. & of course, along the way were a few picture perfect moments.
I love this shot of my mum.

Gotta say i love my new hat so much. Been looking for one in this shade of taupe for the longest time, and i found it in Primark for like a whooping 5 pounds.  *raises hands in air*
The things about being overseas is everywhere is a good place for a photo. The weather is windy but still sunny, so a parka was perfect for the weather.
Did some shopping and i bought new shoes. *looks away*
But hey, i only had 30kg when i came over, so i have an excuse to buy some. Still in search for a good coat to last me through winter that’s about to come.

Had Vietnamese Pho for dinner, and boy did it feel like home. Very asian.
As nights went by since i arrived, couldn’t help but to feel a tad lonely/sad sometimes while lying in bed trying to fall asleep. I miss home already, i miss my boyfriend, i miss my friends. Hope time passes quickly so i couldn’t start school and get my mind off things like that.
& i think i deserve a selfie here because hey, I AM GETTING THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK OF BEING IN LONDON.
*chants to self* It’s all gonna be better, it’s all gonna work out.
BYE.
