Homemade DIY Scented Candles

Everyday - November 28, 2015

Winter’s here and what makes the living room / room extra cosy is a scented candle burning in the background. Good smelling candles don’t come cheap, and it’s pretty simple to make one yourself. So, why not?

Here’s what you need:

Unscented Candle Wax
(you can either melt candles down or you can get wax flakes from DIY stores)

Candle wicks
(we reused the wicks from the candles that we melted down)

Your choice of scented essential oil.
(We chose Cinnamon toast and Sea breeze)

A glass container
(Make sure the container you use can withstand heat!)

Pretty “toppings”
(we used star anise and lavender)

– Melt all the wax down till liquid state and pour in the essential oil. (it should be transparent at this point)
– Wax cools really quickly, so the moment you take it off the stove, pour the liquid into your jar.
– Insert the candle wick and ensure that it stays in position by holding it up with a clip / chopstick.
– Before the top surface cools and solidifies, place your toppings on top gently.
– Wait for the candle to cool completely (it should be white in color now) and that’s done!
– Light it up and wait for the scent to fill the room. (Depending on how much essential oil used, the time taken to fill the room with the scent varies)

Try it out at home, and make sure you don’t light the candle near anything that’s flammable!
