#yellowbluepink

London - November 5, 2015

Visited the #yellowbluepink exhibition by Ann Veronica Janssens today with Mich. It was seriously one of the coolest i’ve been to. So this exhibition is basically in an empty room that’s filled with mist combined with interchanging lights – coloured mist.

Ann Veronica explores light and colour as she invades the gallery with coloured mist. Colour is caught in a state of suspension, obscuring any detail of surface or depth. Instead, attention is focussed on the process of perception itself. Janssens’s work is both disorienting and uplifting as the daily wonder of conscious experience is given renewed emphasis.

It was really intriguing yet slightly intense in a way where when you first enter the exhibition, all you see is this blurry flood of mist. You can’t see what’s ahead or around you. If you’re with a friend, make sure you stick close to each other, because you won’t be able to see anything further than approximately 1 metre ahead of you.

My first thought when i first walked in was literally “oh my god, what is this”. Then i realised i wasn’t able to think about anything else, other than “what/who’s in front, is there a wall next to me, am i gonna walk into a wall”.

With your vision slightly affected, you’ll realise that you would be paying more attention to the subtle details. I found myself watching the other people walk by more, i noticed that there were a couple of people that were wandering around solo and just taking in the whole atmosphere.

Of course, being the asian that i am, i was snapping photos with every couple of steps i took, because why not? right? I might have left the exhibition with 102342 photos of coloured mist that looks like i slapped on some gradient photoshop filter. But believe me, all these are not filters!!!

My favourite parts of the room are the parts where different colored lights blended. Very very pretty.
