Finding it.

Everyday, Random - February 22, 2015

Everyday, we’re seeking to be happy.
And because of the way life works, we find ourselves at roadblocks more often than not.
if life were to throw me lemons, i would take the lemons and hide under the bed with them.

I used to think that what if a person could just constantly be happy?
As i grew older, i realised that no one could be happy 100% of the time. We keep expectations and hopes up, but eventually it somehow needs to be balanced out and we get hit with things that make us sad. But i learnt that it’s fine. It’s alright to embrace the sad moments. Maybe sometimes, these moments of sadness we get once in a while just makes the happiness that comes after a whole lot more worthwhile.

Choosing to look at the happy things everyday definitely blurs out the things that make you sad. There are so many things that are worth being happy about. Like waking up in the morning feeling like the day is going to be great, sitting through a quiet train ride and looking out the window appreciating the warmth from the sun, having meals with your friends, receiving letters out of the blue in your mailbox, finding out that the item you’ve been eyeing at is now on sale, being comfortable with someone, falling asleep in the comfort of someone’s arms, cooking while listening to your favourite playlist, finding money in places you forgot you’ve stashed them (i wish this would happen more, haha), hugs that make you feel loved and at home, long walks in the park, feeling comfy on the couch watching your favourite show or even having a cup of coffee and a hot scone.

For sure, we all have our own share of bad days, bad moments that make us lose hope. But it’s alright to feel that way. It’s really alright to be weak and vulnerable through those times. We somehow just have to find it in ourselves to stand up and again, dust ourselves off and to keep going.

Be it that you’re recovering from a breakup, heartache, lost a friend, or something happened at work / school that is making you really upset, take the time to be sad, take the time to heal from it. It might take days, weeks or even months, but just know that at the end, it’s going to be alright. If it doesn’t get any better, it’s probably not the end yet. Just remember, don’t lose yourself along the way.

“it’s gonna be ok, it really will be.” – I tell myself at times when i feel the sadness creeping back in.

Really love the little paragraph on things that are worth being happy about. I’m going through a heartbreak, but this made me smile. 🙂
