Exploring Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh :  Edin-bruh / Edin-ber ?
Took a mini trip out to Scotland for the first time, and decided to settle with exploring Edinburgh. Overall, Edinburgh was really lovely! The weather worked in our favor, kind of, and the sights & scenery were amazing!

We got around Edinburgh by foot. The only transport we took was the tram ride from the airport into the city which cost us £8 each with a return trip. Most of the landmarks and attractions are pretty close to one another, so it’s quite convenient to walk from one place to another.

Here are the visuals from the places we visited!

1) Carlton Hill
We took about 25 mins to get here from where we stayed, and we had to climb uphill for this. Thankfully the weather was on our side!

2) Edinburgh Castle
To get here, we walked along the Royal Mile, which was also one of the tourist attractions. It’s one of the oldest streets in Edinburgh, featuring quite a number of old buildings. There were so many tourists hanging around the entrance of the castle, so it was pretty hard to get a decent shot of just the castle alone. We decided to skip exploring the interior of the castle as the entrance fee alone was about £16.90 (Adults).

33) The Scotch Whisky Experience
If there was one thing to try in Scotland, it would be their whiskies. We took a tour and it was a great experience! We sat through a barrel ride within the building, learning more about the process of how whiskies are made, and ended off the tour with a whisky tasting session. We even got to bring home the glasses. Pretty worth it, I must say.

4) Amber Restaurant
After the tour ended, we went down to their restaurant for lunch and it was so satisfying, and filling. Made a reservation online prior to visiting because Cheong Heng recommended and gave good reviews about it. It didn’t disappoint. The food was priced quite reasonably and every dish was delicious! The star of our lunch would be the Haggis dish, super rich and flavorful. We’ll probably be thinking about it sometime soon.

5) Scott Monument
The monument is along Princes Street and right next to Waverly Station. It’s hard to miss it.

6) St Giles Cathedral
While strolling along Royal Mile, we decided to pop in the cathedral. I think it’s a must see if you’re around the area! They have pretty sick stained glass all around the cathedral walls, and everyone’s intricately designed.

7) Arthur’s Seat
Possibly one of the most talked about tourist attraction. The weather was a bit wonky in the beginning when we were about to hike up. The sun disappeared and the dark clouds took over. Thankfully it started to clear up and we managed to get a few good photos while up there, taking in the scenery of Edinburgh.

8) Princes Street
It’s the shopping street of Edinburgh. Again, infested with tourists and locals, super busy. Walk along this area if you’ve got nothing on your itinerary and just want to chill for the day.

7Edinburgh’s a really pretty place and worth a visit if you’re intending to head to Scotland! I’ll definitely go back there someday. Do check the weather in advance before heading over though, a gloomy day in Scotland could get you feeling -meh-
